Trekking Morro São Jerônimo
Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Guimarães Mato Grosso, Brazil

Description of the Tour Route

São Jerônimo Hill is one of the highest peaks in Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park, and has one of the most beautiful and complete views in the region. The first stop in the visit is the Casa de Pedra, a small sandstone cavern sculpted by the Independência River, an affluent of the Coxipó River, which creates the majority of the waterfalls in the park.  We continue along a trail all along the way surrounded by rock formations that seem to take the shape of animals, ships and other objects limited only by the imagination.  The first five kilometers of the trail have a slight incline.  After this, we will pass though a rock passageway that will reveal the view of São Jerônimo Hill.  After crossing a small forest, we will arrive at the foot of the hill.  From there the challenge increases.

Now after a steep incline in the trail, we will scale two small rock faces pulling ourselves up and over the top followed by a gentler trail to the top.  After overcoming the challenges of the trail, we are rewarded with a panoramic view in all directions, from the immense Pantanal Lowlands to the sheer cliff faces and hilltops.  After taking in all the peak has to offer, we return back by the same trail.  We can stop at the Casa da Pedra to bathe in the stream before returning to the city.
